Could you share that info, Graham, please?
I have one LX and it will be useful to archive these papers for the future.

I popped off the bottom plate of mine and put a tiny drop of fine oil where the long bar slides over the other piece. I no longer have the camera, nor do I have any pictures from the camera bottom, but you should see the culprit easy enough once you have the cover off.

If you can't pull the mirror down, it might be related to some of the mechanicals of the film advance.

I don't know that this will fix it, but the Rolleiflex SL 35 line of SLRs occasionally has this problem. I've been able to make them work by removing the bottom plate and fiddling with the mechanism.

There are some vague mechanical similarities between a Spotmatic and the Rolleiflex SL 35, and it might work. Or it might not.
