Sigma jumps into the mirrorless market with two cameras

Postby melek » Tue Feb 23, 2016 5:53 pm

Sigma announced two cameras (Sigma sd Quattro and sd Quattro H), which physically are identical. One uses an APS-C sensor with a 1.5x crop, while the other camera uses an APS-H sensor with a 1.3x crop.

The bodies have a non-traditional shape. Price hasn't been announced.

It'll be interesting to see what the price is on these.

I love my DP2 Merrill - when things "click", the results are fantastic. I can easily forgive the rather limited battery life and slow software when I see the final results. It makes a fine B&W camera as well (and so should these, equipped with the Quattro sensor).

I like my dp2Q and have a decent set of SA-mount lenses that might work well with the APS-C version at least. I look forward to trying it out after release.

Finally, they design a camera that doesn't look like they shoehorned the guts into a piece of bent scrap found on the side of the road. It's different looking, but not in-your-face different. Since they put an APS-C sensor in one model, and an APS-H in the other, it's a bit redundant, and will likely cost them more in the long run when making an auto-crop version would have been less expensive to develop.

The size of Sigma's sd Quattro cameras

Postby melek » Sat Feb 27, 2016 12:42 pm

This is a large camera. Take a look below. Not as big as the Leica SL, but certainly not as small as the other dp Quattros.
