Argust 16th Is Coming!

Postby PFMcFarland » Thu Aug 04, 2016 10:07 pm

Time to dust off the old Argus Brick, or whatever model you have, and get it ready for Argus Day, August 16, 2016 (Argust 16th).

Post them here when you are done.

I loaded the C-44 and Cintagon 2.8/50 with Kodak Ektar 100, grabbed the Argus finder with the 4.5/35 and 3.5/100 Cintagon lenses, and headed up to Buchanan, VA.

I had some parallax errors when using the 100mm, mostly from forgetting to set the distance adjustment. I constantly worried about not knocking the shutter setting off the intended speed. The camera handles well, but the aux finder has a severe haze problem on the 35mm setting.

Sorted out, it might be a good user, but the Steinheil 35 and 100mm lenses at present leave much to be desired.

Here are some examples.

Nice series, Phil. Speaking of Buchanan, not the town but the President, here is his memorial in Meridian Hill Park in Washington, DC.

Nice. Somehow I never had an Argus. PF, the Ektar 100 has a nice look to it. I have a roll in 120, should probably use it.

My Dad had a couple of Argus models, the CC, and a C-3. I think he sold the C-3, but I got the CC, which is better because that's the one he had with him during WWII. Once folks found out I had an Argus and liked it, all of the sudden they started giving them to me. I might have enough C-3s to brick up a fireplace! (Just kidding, only eight of them)

I've come to like the Ektar 100 too, but it took a while to figure out its sweet spot. You definitely don't want to underexpose it.

My second camera for the day is the CR-1 SLR, with an Auto-Cintar 55mm 1:2.0, loaded with Kodak Tri-X 400. It turned out to be the wrong film, but I had put it in the camera when it was raining and foggy. However, the weather decided to improve very quickly the further north I went.

Very nice B&W, PF.

I could not get my Brick out this year.

Not one Argus left. I sold them all off.

If we all saw the world the same no one would need a camera.

I was too busy at work to get out my Argus half-frame/full-frame camera. Sigh.
I'll be retired in a year. Maybe better timing then.
