620 Day, 2016

Postby melek » Tue Jun 14, 2016 10:57 pm

Is anyone planning to get out there and shoot some film with their 620 camera?

I shot some last year but then used expired developer and got a roll of blank film. :(

I'm thinking that I'd like to give another go of it this year.

Except I need to find my 620 cameras. And some film. And some 620 spools. All somewhere in the stack of boxes all over the place.

Thanks for the reminder, Mike. I've got a Brownie Bulls-eye I've been meaning to use for this, but then have trouble locating it when the time comes. I'll start looking for it tomorrow.

Thanks from here, too, for the reminder, Mike. I'd like to do something but 620 film is always a problem because I haven't got the handy-hands to do the respooling. Sigh. I have three days to think this through . . . .

Damn I've been so busy I forgot. I really need to get my Medallist going for this by next year. Unless somebody is looking for a fix up project. (advance is jammed)

I had the camera. I had the spools. I even had the changing bag. But could I locate a roll of T-Max 100? Nooooo!

Had to settle for some way out of date Velvia (10-1999). I'll just convert it because it looks crappy in color shift.

For the first time I managed to take some photos with a 620 camera on 6/20; 6 exposures on a roll of Arista 100 in the Kodak Duo 620. Light was good and subject was familiar, handily located where I was rushing for a meeting. 10 more frames and I'll know if I got anything worth posting.

Fujichrome Velvia 50 (exp. 10-1999) is not conducive to using in a camera with fixed settings of 1/50 @ f11 even on a bright day (Kodak Brownie Bull’s-Eye). It needed at least two more stops of exposure (one for each decade), and then by shooting with a 6x9 camera, that meant that all the shots would be pre-cropped because the lab scanner can only go up to 6x7.

There is a bit of camera shake evident in some photos. And even though I re-shot the first one because I forgot to take the lens off the 10ft focus click stop, the infinity version doesn’t look all that much better. Could be because it is from the bottom third of the frame.

Just a tad under exposed

I still might try some Ilford Pan F in the camera. And get a better grip on it.

As I said in the earlier post I did take some 620 pictures on 620 Day-- the first time I've done that. I used the Kodak Duo 620. But the processed prints from Dwayne's didn't look too promising. The negatives looked ok so I sneaked my scanner back from storage (waiting for a move) and scanned a couple. The Duo 620 seems to be holding up pretty and I was glad to see that there were was no misalignment of the film on the rewound spool; last roll before this one I must have got some slack in the rewinding and many of the views of a clapboard church had wavy horizontals. Anyway, here are a couple views of a small sculpture garden at a local university.

The Duo (you, and the camera) are still working good, Bill.

Thanks, PF. I was glad to see your photos from the Brownie Bulls-Eye, a model that I've wondered about The water tower and Catawba look pretty good to me. And the old house is pretty dramatic as is; I suppose the shake is showing up at a bigger size? The Bulls-Eye has similarities in looks to the Hawkeye, but couldn't have been as popular-- probably the size and only 8 exposures worked against it. I'll be interested to see what it does with Pan F if you try that out, too.
