There's nothing normal about the 1950s Meyer-Optik Primoplan lens

Meyer-Optik Goerlitz f/1.9 58mm Primoplan

By the late-1950s, the Zeiss Planar had begun to establish itself as the standard bearer for 50mm lenses, and many camera makers would soon follow suit, using the design as the basis for their own 50mm lenses.

However, not everyone jumped on board, and you can count Meyer-Optik Goerlitz as among them.

With Meyer-Optik becoming a player again in photography, it’s a good time to revisit its top lens for 35mm SLRs – the f/1.9 58mm Primoplan.

PhotoExpo Plus 2015

PhotoPlus Expo is the biggest annual photographic event in the U.S., bringing together a large number of exhibitors.

If you are interested in a particular camera or lens, you will find it here. Even if you aren't buying, it's a great way to spend several hours.

To fully appreciate it, you'll need all of that time, mostly because of the sheer number of exhibitors.

I think this year's expo was larger than last year and certainly larger than the 2013 show.

Leica SL

Things were hectic at the Leica booth at PhotoPlus Expo 2015 at the Javits Center in New York City.

There were counters for all of Leica’s digital and film systems, including the M models, the Q, T and S, as well as the German camera maker’s latest – the Leica SL, and all of them were busy.

I waited patiently for some counter space to clear. I wanted to handle the SL, and I had questions about this new system.
