The rugged camera segment is one of the few bright spots for digital point and shoots, and Nikon and Ricoh have announced new models.

The Nikon Coolpix W300 replaces the AW130, while the Ricoh WG-50 succeeds the WG-40.

Both cameras are taking the approach of other manufacturers by not upping the pixel count and instead improving the image through other means.

Nikon’s latest trio of lenses celebrates wide-angle photography end with two zooms – one of them a fisheye – and a high-speed lens.

The 8-15mm and 28mm lenses are intended for Nikon’s FX full-frame sensor bodies, while the 10-20mm zoom is for bodies fitted with the smaller DX APS-C sensors. Note that these are branded as Nikkor lenses, which signifies a higher-quality product.

Sony is going wide with its newest lenses for full-frame E-mount cameras.

The f/2.8 G Master 16-35mm and f/4.0 12-24mm lenses represent two approaches in the wide-angle zoom category.

While both are intended for Sony’s full-frame A7 and A9 mirrorless cameras, they also can be mounted to its bodies with APS-C sensors. Factoring in the 1.5X crop, the 16-35mm becomes a 24-52.5mm, while the 12-24mm becomes an 18-36mm.

Camera manufacturers that serve professionals know this, and certain camera companies have staff dedicated to catering to working photographers.

Lomography has taken the concept of interchangeable lenses in a new direction with its Lomo Neptune Convertible Art Lens system.

This is composed of numerous parts: three lenses, a lens base and a set of six aperture plates.

The three lenses are a f/3.5 35mm Thalassa, f/2.8 50mm Despina and f/4.0 80mm Proteus. The lens base has its own aperture ring, while there are six plates with special-shaped cutouts to add fun to your photography.

Fujfilm has announced the next two lenses for its mirrorless GFX system – the GF f/2.0 110mm R LM WR and the GF f/4.0 23mm R LM WR. Meanwhile, the company also said it would release a firmware update soon to impove camera functions in several ways.
