The apparent demise of Popular Photography is another reminder that the Internet has changed everything about traditional media. Popular Photography, which was celebrating its 80th of publishing, has now closed its doors, along with its sister publication, American Photographer.

As Nikon celebrates its 100th anniverary in 2017, the company reportedly is going to get serious about mirrorless cameras, according to Yahoo Japan. It includes the possibility of developing multiple mirrorless cameras. For photography enthusiasts, there are two reactions (and one of them isn’t, “Ho, hum.”). Why would Nikon do that? What took so long? I am in the second group.

I never knew Bill Cunningham, and in fact I didn’t really know anything about him until someone at a fashion show mentioned him. They gave me that “you haven’t heard of Bill Cunningham?” look. In the fashion world, Bill Cunningham probably was as well known as Vogue Editor-in-Chief Anna Wintour.

Despite being under pressure from studios, several movie directors are still shooting film. Add Colin Trevorrow to that list? Who is Colin Trevorrow? He is the director of "Star Wars IX," and Trevorrow recently announced that he will be shooting the movie with film.

My fascination with Windows 10 as the operating system on my primary computer ended this weekend. The way that I use my computer is as a productivity tool. I manage the PhotographyToday.net site and forum, write, create videos, edit photos and do website work. I don't do much else, although occasionally I do play an older game. "All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy."

In photography circles, people mention GAS - Gear Acquisition Syndrome. Most amateur photographers love their cameras. We like to look at them. We like talking about them. And we like dreaming about buying something else. The one thing that is better than the above is buying a new piece of camera equipment.

It’s the end of the line for Holga, the plastic camera that has enthralled millions with its soft lenses, light leaks and dreamy photos. Holga creates its own photographic niche, which continues to this day, as people seek out older cameras with meniscus lenses. Its photos were reminiscent of the “pictorial” style that was popular for a while in the 1920s.

There are many reasons why you should be shooting with a digital camera, and convenience is at or near the top of the list. What I mean is that having constant access to a camera today is so much easier than in the film days. For sure, many of us had a compact camera or point and shoot in a briefcase, backpack or coat pocket. These days, however, the camera of choice for many people is the smartphone.
