Fujifilm has added a second 16mm lens to its X-series lineup, and it’s a less-expensive alternative.

The Fujinon f/2.8 XF16mm R WR fits all X-series bodies that use the APS-C sensor. It is a 24mm full-frame equivalent.

At just 5.5 ounces (155 grams), this lens uses a mix of metal and composite materials. Fujifilm says the barrel is made of metal and seals the lens in nine locations to protect it from dust and moisture.

Fujifilm has added a sixth lens for its digital GFX medium format system. The Fujinon f/2.8 GF45mm R WR, which provides for a 36mm field of view when thought of in terms of full-frame 35mm, weighs about 17 ounces (490 grams).

Fujifilm says the GF45mm is a good choice for street photography and documentary work.

The lens has 11 elements in eight groups and includes one aspherical element and two extra-low dispersion (ED) lenses. There are nine aperture blades.

Even as many lens makers are shifting their efforts to more exotic lenses, along comes Zeiss with a 35mm lens.

In this day, a 35mm wide-angle lens is often met with a collective ho-hum. Does photography need another 35mm lens? Does Zeiss need another 35mm lens when it already has a Milvus f/2.0 in that focal length?

Fujifilm’s X-series owners now have another lens choice with the addition of a compact 23mm wide-angle optic.

With the X-series APS-C sensor crop of 1.5x, the Fujinon XF23mmF2 R WR is a full-frame equivalent 34.5mm – or roughly 35mm, the standard wide-angle lens for many years in the film era. To be sure, this lens is compatible with all X-series bodies.

Zeiss is "all in" when it comes to digital. It now has numerous lines of lenses, depending on your needs, your camera and the amount of cash in your bank account.

The newest lens, a f/1.4 28mm, is the third in the Otus series, which is for now the highest-end line of optics produced by Zeiss.

Zeiss says it has eliminated chromatic aberration and geometric distortion and claims performance equal to medium format when paired with a full-frame digital camera.
