Sigma has become the latest company to announce a full-frame mirrorless digital camera, and the Sigma fp is unique in its approach.

Sigma also becomes the third maker to produce a camera that uses the L mount.

The Sigma fp began as a concept camera. Unlike other concept models, the concept is the camera. Concept models usually are used to test different designs and features, and the final product often looks different from the test model.

Sigma hopes that its new 24-70mm f/2.8 DG HSM OS Art will make you think differently about kit lenses. After all, the kit lens is seen by many as something that is thrown in by camer makers without much thought – it gives most photographers a lens to use, even if it’s not the best lens in the lineup.

Sigma's intent with this lens is to provide a premium all-purpose zoom with excellent optical performance and "beautiful circular bokeh."

Sigma announces fast 14mm, 135mm primes and 24-70mm, 100-400mm zooms

Sigma has announced four lenses – two primes and two zooms – each serving a different type of photographer.

  • f/1.8 14mm
  • f/1.8 135mm
  • f/2.8 24-70mm
  • f/5.6-6.3 100-400mm

Three of the lenses are part of Sigma’s “Art” series while the 100-400mm is one of its “Contemporary” optics.

All of the lenses are intended for full-frame cameras, although they also can be used on cameras with APS-C sensors.

Sigma has released several updates that are noteworthy, covering a lens, a camera body and its own image-editing software.

Firmware update v1.2 addresses an issue when the lens was mounted to the Olympus OM-D E-M1 Mark II in which the autofocus did not work when C-AF was selected.

Sigma advises turning off certain functions when using its lenses on Canon EOS 5D Mark IV

Sigma has issued an advisory about the use of its lenses on the new Canon EOS 5D Mark IV.

Sigma says that while its lenses for the Canon EOS mount fit the camera, manual override (MO) is unavailable. Full-time manual is available.

Further, Sigma suggests disabling lens correction on all Canon digital EOS bodies that have that option, including the 5D Mark IV.

As Photokina 2016 winds down in Cologne, Germany, it was another annual show that attracted thousands to see the latest photographic products.

There were some new bodies, plenty of lenses and a surprise from Fujifilm.

Canon defied the critics and released the EOS M5, its latest mirrorless camera that has an integrated electronic viewfinder and a new 18-150mm kit lens.

Sigma has unveiled a trio of lenses that could find appeal among three very different groups of photographers.

The three lenses – 85mm f/1.4 DG HSM Art, 12-24mm f/4.0 DG HSM Art and 500mm f/4.0 DG OS HSM Sport – are part of Sigma’s Global Vision series.

The lenses are available in three mounts – Canon EOS, Nikon F and Sigma – and can be adapted to the Sony E-mount via Sigma’s own MC-11 converter.

Sigma says certain lenses can scratch Pentax K-70 lens mount

Sigma is warning that certain lenses will scratch the Pentax K-70 body and advises users to not mount those optics until the lens can be modified.

This is very similar to what happened with the full-frame Pentax K-1 body and with the same group of lenses listed below.

Sigma said the damage is caused by the shape of the upper part of the lens mount.
