Pentax K-1 II

Pentax is one of the beloved names of photography, first capturing a generation with the Spotmatic and then introducing 35mm film via the K1000.

In the digital space, the Pentax name hasn’t been at the top of the leaderboard. Even with the Pentax brand now being part of Ricoh.

But that doesn’t mean Pentax doesn’t have a viable digital camera. In 2016, Pentax released its first full-frame DSLR, the K-1. This year, the camera has undergone an update.

Ricoh is now offering potential buyers of its full-frame Pentax K-1 camera a second option when it comes to body color. The Pentax K-1 Limited Silver is otherwise the identical to the black-bodied K-1.

Pentax says this camera will visually match up with silver FA Limited lenses.

This is the first and only silver-bodied full-frame SLR. Silver bodies began to fall out of favor in the 1980s, and there haven't been any silver full-frame SLRs in the digital era.

Ricoh Imaging is pushing back against a news report that it is considering scaling back its consumer camera business.

While there are many digital SLRs that are made to operate in all kinds of conditions, Ricoh Imaging is marketing the Pentax KP as a camera for all seasons.

The Pentax KP has a 24.3-MP APS-C CMOS sensor that is linked to the Prime IV image-processing system. There is no low-pass filter, which is being seen increasingly these days. The ISO range is 100 to an astounding 819,200. Whether the top of the range is a usable ISO will remain to be seen.

Pentax takes to the great outdoors with its K-70 DSLR.

Pentax says this camera is built to withstand the rigors of Mother Nature with 100 weather sealing points.

Inside of the camera is a 24.2-MP CMOS APS-C sensor that drops the anti-alias filter, which should result in sharper images out of the camera. The sensor has an ISO range of 100-102,400, which can be extended upward to 204,800.

For months, Pentax has teased photographers with previews of its upcoming full-frame camera.

Pentax, which is part of the Ricoh Imaging group, finally has fully unveiled the K-1.

While it doesn’t break any new ground in terms of its technology, longtime Pentax fans will appreciate the pro-level features and the price. At US$1,799.95, it's one of the lowest-price full-frame digital cameras at its introduction. The camera will begin shipping in April 2016.

Pentax has announced two lenses with the release of its full-frame K-1 digital SLR. One is a superwide zoom, while the other is an all-purpose kit lens covering the most popular focal lengths.

The lenses use the KAF3 mount. They don't have aperture rings, as that is controlled by the camera.
