Nikon introduced the D500, a DX-format (APS-C) DSLR that replaces the D300S.

The D500 borrows a number of features from its full-frame sibling, the D5.

Nikon says the D500 uses an all-new 20.9-megapixel CMOS sensor that is coupled with the new EXPEED 5 image-processing engine that reduces image noise.

Nikon has begun work on the D5 – the next full-frame DSLR in its lineup.

In a press release, Nikon provided no technical information about the new camera. It said the new model will offer photographers "an even higher level of performance and image quality."

Meanwhile, Nikon also said it also is creating the SB-5000 Speedlight, which will sit at the top of the line for its electronic flash units, and a WT-6 wireless transmitter.

Zeiss announces Milvus - a new line of lenses for Canon and Nikon

With Zeiss making products for the mirrorless market – the Fuji X mount and Sony E mount – it seems as if its offerings for DSLRs have languished. After all, it's been years since the release of a line of premium lenses for full-frame film and digital cameras.

Zeiss this week unveiled the Milvus series – six manual-focus lenses for Canon and Nikon DSLRs – with focal lengths from 21mm to 100mm. In a press release, Zeiss said that more lenses will follow.

Nikon is expanding its line of mirrorless interchangeable lens cameras with the Nikon 1 J5.

The Nikon 1 J5 has a new design with a kit lens that looks like it came from a point and shoot ... film or digital.

The body will be available in three colors: silver and black, silver and white and all black.

Tokina goes ultra wide with two zooms
