Meyer-Optik Goerlitz is rapidly making a name for itself among art photographers.

Those are the ones who aren’t concerned about utlimate sharpness and creamy bokeh. In fact, those who support the Meyer-Optik lens projects celebrate the old world quality of these lenses.

Meyer-Optik has announced its fifth lens that will be funded via a Kickstarter campaign – the Lydith f/3.5 30mm. This is another of its lens designs for film cameras.

There's nothing normal about the 1950s Meyer-Optik Primoplan lens

By the late-1950s, the Zeiss Planar had begun to establish itself as the standard bearer for 50mm lenses, and many camera makers would soon follow suit, using the design as the basis for their own 50mm lenses.

However, not everyone jumped on board, and you can count Meyer-Optik Goerlitz as among them.

With Meyer-Optik becoming a player again in photography, it’s a good time to revisit its top lens for 35mm SLRs – the f/1.9 58mm Primoplan.

Trioplan and classic triplet design

The revived Meyer-Optik Goerlitz is filling out its series of Trioplan lenses with a third lens – a wide-angle optic. Like the previous lenses, it is being backed by a Kickstarter project.

Meyer-Optik says its modest US$10,000 funding goal was reached in six minutes. However, there are various funding packages still available to support the production of this lens.

Meyer-Optik Goerlitz is at it again.

With 50mm and 100mm Trioplans making their way into the hands of buyers, the revived company is now turning its attention to bringing back another of its classic lenses: the Primoplan.

And like the Trioplan, Meyer-Optik is turning to a Kickstarter campaign to secure funding and gauge interest in the lens.

If one Trioplan is good news for photography, then a second Trioplan is even better news.

The f/2.9 50mm Trioplan by Meyer-Optik-Goerlitz follows on the heels of the f/2.8 100mm optic. And like the 100mm lens, this one is getting out of the gates via a Kickstarter campaign, which has close to 600 backers as of the date of this article.
