The Canon EOS R represents a concerted effort by the camera maker to provide photographers with a high-end camera.

The EOS R is a full-frame camera that arrives with yet another camera mount for Canon – the RF. Note that Canon was careful to not confuse its current users by making the name a variation of “EF.”

Canon’s somewhat confusing U.S. strategy for its EOS M line of mirrorless cameras has taken another turn. It announced recently that the EOS M3 will be available in the U.S.

Canon hasn’t carved out much of a market in the mirrorless interchangable-lens camera market. The EOS M arrived two years ago and has failed to generate a lot of buzz, although it certainly has its followers – like every camera does.

Canon has updated its L series wide-angle lens and introduced a new type of glass (not resin like it uses in its inexpensive consumer lenses).

The fast f/1.4 35mm lens is the first to use Blue Spectrum Refractive Optics (BR Optics), which Canon claims better chromatic aberration correction than existing lens technologies, such as extra-low dispersion glass.

Canon says it developed a new organic material in creating BR Optics without revealing what that organic material is.
