Japan wants to keep Nikon a Japanese company

Fuji Rumors says a reader translated a Japanese-language article that says the Japanese government wants to keep Nikon out of the hands of Chinese, Taiwanese and Korean investors and would welcome Fujifilm taking a stake in Nikon. Fujifilm apparently is still sore about Canon using “underhanded tactics” in outbidding it for Toshiba Medical. The site is asking for someone else to translate the article to see if the original translation is correct.

Lexar shutdown ‘terrifies’ rumor site's admin

Nikon Rumors is lamenting the fact that Micron Technology has withdrawn from the memory card business. Micron made Lexar memory cards, and it was one of two makers of XQD cards that are used in Nikon’s D5 and D500 bodies. The site say this leaves Sony as the sole maker of these cards, and the site admin finds this terrifying. Apparently, the site admin doesn’t spend much time in the real world.

Lens Rumor says that Sony will release two full-frame G Master telephoto lenses: 135mm and 400mm. The site, citing another rumor, says the 135mm could be a f/1.8 lens while the other lens is expected to be f/2.8.

Photo of Canon EOS Rebel SL2 leaked

Canon Rumors has posted a photo of what it says is the upcoming Canon EOS Rebel SL2. Not surprisingly, the new model looks like the older model that it will replace. The new camera will have a 24.2-MP APS-C CMOS sensor, a 3.0-inch touchscreen LCD and will weigh about one pound. Canon reportedly will unveil the SL2 and 6D Mark II on June 29.

Bodies and lenses from Olympus, Panasonic this year

43 Rumors says there will be only a couple of more announcements this year. New bodies are expected from both companies with the Olympus E-M10 Mark III and an unnamed body from Panasonic. The site says to expect Olympus lenses announced in  the second half of 2017 a Leica-branded 50-200mm zoom between August and October.

Nikon Rumors lays out what it believes Nikon will announce this year. The Nikon D810 will be announced this summer, and there will be two more Nikkor lenses. In addition, the Coolpix P900 will be replaced. Finally, a new Nikon mirrorless system will be announced late 2017 or early 2018.
