HIGHLIGHTS

  • Fast constant f/2.0 aperture throughout zoom range
  • Fits Nikon F and Canon EOS digital SLRs with APS-C sensors
  • Can switch between autofocus and manual focus

There has been considerable development in the area of ultrawide-angle zooms, and Tokina has stepped up the competition with a fast offering for Nikon F and Canon EOS owners.

As the last two letters of its name indicates, the Tokina AT-X 14-20 F2 PRO DX is intended for use on Canon and Nikon digital SLRs with APS-C sensors.

Tokina said this is the fastest lens it has made in the ultrawide zoom category.

This autofocus lens features a new design, Tokina says, and has 13 elements in 11 groups. It uses three aspherical elements (two are glass) and four Super-Low Dispersion glass elements. There are nine aperture blades.

It accepts 82mm filters, and it has a close-focus distance of 0.9 feet (0.28 meters).

The photographer can quickly switch between autofocus and manual focus by using Tokina’s “One-Touch Focus Clutch Mechanism.” Snapping the focusing ring forward sets it to autofocus, while snapping it backward toward the body enables manual focus.

Its dimensions are 3.5 x 4.2 inches (89 x 106mm), and it weighs 1.6 pounds (725 grams).

The lens is available now for US$839.00.
