  • It's Nikon's first foray into the action-camera segment
  • A lens/sensor on the front and back provides 360º coverage
  • Capable of recording 4K UHD video

Nikon's first camera for the action-camera segment adopts a unique approach, as well as the ability to record 4K ultra high-definition video.

The KeyMission 360 has front- and rear-facing lenses (each with its own sensor), and Nikon says that this will provide a true 360 degree view. This likely will require it to be mounted on a helmet or in some manner that doesn't block one of the lenses.

Images from the two sensor are then merged to create a single "immersive" high-definition video or still image, Nikon says.

Being an action camera, Nikon says the KeyMission 360 is waterproof up to 100 feet (30 meters) and can withstand shock and operate in low temperatures. Electronic vibration reduction is enabled during movie playback to counter camera shake.

The KeyMission 360 has built-in WiFi and Bluetooth connectivity.

Pricing and a release date haven't been announced.
