Leica has announced that it won’t participate in PhotoPlus Expo 2017 in New York City.
Instead, Leica will hold four days of special events during PhotoPlus Expo at its Leica Store in SoHo. The planned events include Leica Akademie workshops, and Leica said it might hold events at other locations in New York City. Leica also will have all of its products available.
In an e-mail, Leica said it wants to provide its customers with a more personal experience than what it says is possible at PhotoPlus Expo.
This year’s PhotoPlus Expo will be held Oct. 25-28 at the Javitz Convention Center, New York City. It’s the largest exhibition of photography products and services in North America. PhotoPlus also includes seminars, workshops and portfolio reviews. The exhibition annually draws about 20,000 people, who come to see new cameras, lenses, lighting, bags, video equipment, books and a large number of other items on exhibit and for sale.
It’s unusual for a major photographic company to not have a presence at PhotoPlus Expo. If there are other factors in Leica's decision to opt out of this year’s event, those reasons haven’t been made public.
