Fujifilm’s X-series owners now have another lens choice with the addition of a compact 23mm wide-angle optic.

With the X-series APS-C sensor crop of 1.5x, the Fujinon XF23mmF2 R WR is a full-frame equivalent 34.5mm – or roughly 35mm, the standard wide-angle lens for many years in the film era. To be sure, this lens is compatible with all X-series bodies.

In addition to being reasonably fast f/2.0, the XF23mm is compact, lightweight and features internal focusing, which means the length of the barrel doesn’t change.

The lens is composed of 10 elements in six groups with two aspherical elements. Nine aperture blades form the circular aperture.

The minimum focus distance is just under nine inches, and Fujifilm says the lens should focus in 0.05 seconds.

As its name indicates, the lens is weather resistant. Fujifilm says it should operate in temperatures as low as 14°F (- 10°C).

The XF23mm is 2.4 x 2 inches (60 x 51.9 mm) and weighs 6.4 ounces (180 grams).

The lens, which will be available in either black or silver, will cost US$449.95 and should begin shipping in September 2016.
