Fujifilm has added a second 16mm lens to its X-series lineup, and it’s a less-expensive alternative.
The Fujinon f/2.8 XF16mm R WR fits all X-series bodies that use the APS-C sensor. It is a 24mm full-frame equivalent.
At just 5.5 ounces (155 grams), this lens uses a mix of metal and composite materials. Fujifilm says the barrel is made of metal and seals the lens in nine locations to protect it from dust and moisture.
The lens uses 10 elements in eight groups and includes two aspherical elements. Fujfilm doesn’t indicate whether the lens elements are glass or composite. It focuses internally, which means that there are no rotating parts, and the length of the lens never changes.
This becomes the fourth lens in Fujifilm’s budget series, joining the 23mm, 35mm and 50mm optics.
The Fujinon f/2.8 XF16mm is very compact at just 1.8 inches (45.4mm) long. It uses nine aperture blades and accepts 49mm filters.
A petal-type lens shade is included.
The Fujinon f/2.8 XF16mm R WR is be available in black and silver for US$399.95. The silver lens won’t ship until May 2019, while the black version is available now.
